Install Office 365 (Microsoft 365) on a Mac
Install Office 365 apps on a Mac
Sign in at https://office.com using your LLCC credentials.
You will be using the [Install and more] button.

If you don’t see that button then navigate to the home page of Office by clicking on the grid menu, then choosing Microsoft 365:

Click on the [Install and more] button then choose to Install Microsoft 365 apps.

Then from My account, choose to install Office:

You will be requested to allow downloads. Allow downloads:

The download may take some time. In the process you will see in your downloads folder a file with the “.download” ending. It may look like the following:

When the download completed it will look like the following:

Click on the “.pkg” ending file and it will launch the installation.

- Agree to the Software License Agreement. [Continue]
- Install for all users of this computer then [Continue]
- Continue with a Standard Install on “Macintosh HD” [Continue]
- If you might use Microsoft Teams, then make sure to Allow the use of your microphone. [Continue]

You do not need to sign into Teams. It could slow down your computer, so only sign in if you will be using it.

Finally finish the installation with [Close].

After a successful installation it is wise to move the Installer to the trash.

Then Microsoft AutoUpdate will probably launch to make sure everything is fresh.

Don’t be concerned if the update takes longer than what Microsoft tells you it would take:

Here it stuck on “2 seconds remaining” for about 5 minutes.
After it is installed, you can launch the freshly updated Word program by locating it in your app launcher.

The first time you launch it you will probably get a “Get Started with office” dialog. You will need to sign in to your LLCC account using your LLCC user id and password.

When your Word program launches from your local computer this is what it will look like. Many people confuse Word running in the cloud with Word running on a local computer. Make sure to see the differences.

Also, to make your life easier, keep Word on your Dock, so you can find it easily next time. Right click on the Word icon in the Dock and then choose the option Keep in Dock.

This is what Word looks like when it is running from your computer. Notice you are NOT running word within a browser like Safari.

This is what Word looks like when you are running Word from the cloud. You can see the browser interface. This is what Word looks like when you launch it from office.com.

Word running from your computer has more features. Just as important, your work is by default saved to your computer, NOT to the cloud. Note how the File menus are different when it comes to saving your work!!
Understand that work saved on your computer will not be available to you at school, unless you bring your computer with you. Where the data resides is important! Learn how to upload your locally stored Word documents to your OneDrive on your office.com account.
Here is a YouTube video that discusses the Online and Desktop version differences (A PC example is used).
